Born and raised in Seoul, Korea, Bomin Kim began classical piano training at age ten and grew up immersed in church music, where she developed a natural affinity for harmony and spontaneous performance. At nineteen, she discovered jazz harmony and began exploring improvisation. After studying at the Seoul Institute of the Arts (2010), she built a career in Korea’s vibrant live and studio scene—working as an arranger and keyboardist for SBS’s K-pop Star Seasons 5, 6, performing with AKMU(Akdong Musician) on national tours, and accompanying artists such as Sam Ock and various musical theater productions.
In her early thirties, she moved to New York to pursue her master’s degree at the Manhattan School of Music, where she studied under Jeremy Manasia and Phil Markowitz. Her artistry soon gained international recognition: she was named a 2023 ASCAP Foundation AAPI Songwriter Awardee, performing at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., and she also collaborated with the UN Symphony Orchestra at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Bomin's discography reflects her multidimensional creativity. Her original EPs Dear (2021) and Again by Accident (2022) showcase her as a composer, producer, lyricist, vocalist, and pianist. She is featured on Seungmin Jung Sextet’s Anecdotes (2025) and has collaborated with New York-based artists including Jonah Grant and Felix Ambach.
In 2025, Kim embarked on her first international tour as a leader with the Bomin Kim Group, performing sold-out shows across Korea and Australia, including a workshop at Monash University in Melbourne. In New York, she has appeared at venues such as Jazz on Main, ShapeShifter Lab, and Nublu, as well as at Cotton Club, Minor Swing, The Ellington Jazz Club, and Paris Cat during her international engagements.
Honored with the ASCAP Foundation AAPI Songwriter Awards, Composer Awards from the Musical Theater Association of Korea, and recognition as a semifinalist in the 7 Virtual Jazz Club Competition (2024), Bomin Kim continues to shape a distinctive voice in contemporary jazz—one that merges introspective lyricism, cultural hybridity, and fearless imagination. She is currently working on her debut full-length studio album, set to highlight her vibrant harmonic language and poetic sense of storytelling.
She is also selected as a member of the Arko Ensemble, formed by the Arts Council Korea (ARKO). As part of Korea’s cultural diplomacy program, she will participate in the ensemble’s international concert series throughout 2026, performing in cities including New York, Washington, London, Berlin and more.
